Eastern Michigan University’s volleyball team left the nest for a set of road matches against Bowling Green and Miami of Ohio. The Eagles lost both games to their fellow MAC opponents by a combined score of 7-1. With the lose, EMU finds itself on a five-game losing streak, dropping the team to 10-14 overall with a 2-6 record in conference.
In the match against Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan came out strong, taking the first set with a score of 28-26. In a back and forth battle, the Eagles secured the set on a kill from Jordan Smith following an offensive error by Bowling Green, but the next three sets belonged to Bowling Green. Bowling Green won each set by at least five points on its way to the win. Although the Eagles kept things statistically close, the 6-1 in conference Falcons proved to be too tough for the Eagles to contain.
Following the match against Bowling Green, Eastern took to the road to face off against Miami of Ohio. Miami would handle the Eagles with ease by claiming the first three sets and securing the match. In set one, Miami dominated Eastern Michigan, winning the set 16-25. Set two finished with a score of 35-33 in Miami’s favor despite a strong effort from the EMU offense. Eastern forced extra points in the third and final set but still fell short, losing 28-26.
This week, Eastern Michigan faced off against the top two teams in the MAC currently. The Eagles walked out of the weekend with a pair of losses and the MAC tournament just a month away. The Eagles they have eight games before the tournament to turn things around. Eastern needs to start strong, with matches against Akron Oct. 20 and Buffalo Oct. 21, if they plan to make a run in the conference tournament.
