The Eastern Michigan gymnastics team wrapped up its season at the NCAA Regionals in Champaign, Ill., April 1.
The team finished sixth out of schools that included Ohio State, Illinois, Iowa, Oregon State, and UCLA. The team had a score of 195.400, just 0.3 points behind the fifth place finisher.
"I'm so proud of how the team competed today," said coach Sarah Brown. "I thought the judging was very tight throughout, but our team came out and had another strong meet."
On the vault, the Eagles scored 48.850. Kendall Valentin led the way with a fourth place performance with 9.825 points. Ciara Gresham, Catie Conrad and Megan Hultgren also placed within the top 15 scores for the event.
On the bars, Lacey Rubin led the way onto the team's 49.100. Rubin scored a career high with a 9.900 as she tied for third overall in the regional. Conrad and Valentin tied for sixth with a 9.850.
When the Eagles took there turn on the bars, they came out and scored a 48.575. Only one Eagle was able to get in the top 20 of the event. Valentin tied for tenth with 9.850. The floor is where the Eagles looked to improve the team's score and try for a higher rank. The team scored a 48.875, paced by Kirsten Gendron and Sydney McEachern. The pair each tied for fourteenth with a pair of 9.800's.
The Eagles closed out the season in Champaign, Ill where the team won both the Mid-American Conference regular season and conference tournament championships.
