​Gymnastics goes ‘back to back’

The EMU gymnastics team picked up its second-straight Mid-American Conference tournament championship on Saturday in Bowling Green with a 196.500

The team set a program record on the bars with a 49.300 thanks to the contributions from Catie Conrad, Natalie Gervais and Lacey Rubin who all had career highs. The trio tied for third on the bars as they each scored a 9.900 and placed first in the event.

Eastern Michigan edged the Falcons of Bowling Green who collected a score 196.400 to allow EMU to pull off the full sweep of regular season and tournament victories.

On the vault, the Eagles scored a 49.000 as a team. Ciara Gresham and Kendall Valentin tied for second with their 9.850 scores. Kelsie Brooks placed in the eight spot with her career high 9.825.

The team scored its fourth-best total on the beam in school history with its 49.150. Conrad paced the Eagles with her seventh placed 9.875 along with Valentin’s 9.850.

Conrad also led the way for the Eagles when they hit the floor for their routines. Her, Sydney McEachern and Megan Marino set career highs on the floor with their 9.850. The group scored a 49.050 on the way to the win. 

Four Eastern Michigan gymnasts were honored on the All-tournament team. Gresham, Conrad, Valentin, Gervais and Rubin were all honored on the team.
