Men's swim and dive competes at OSU Invitational

EMU's men's swim and dive team completed the two-day competition at the Ohio State University Winter Invitational on Feb. 11 and 12. 

On the first day alone, the Eagles posted 11 top-10 finishes on the day on 12 career-best times.

The Eagles had a second and third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Kevin Moore was the top finisher of the day, claiming fifth in the 100 Butterfly, while freshman Gian Garcia also finished inside the top-10 in the event, claiming ninth place.

During the 500 Freestyle Jacob Ehrman came in eighth place, while Benjamin Ryan wrapped up a ninth-place finish.

Senior Erik Brinkhoff came in sixth place finish with a career-best time of 51.11 in the 100 backstroke. The Eagles later added a fourth place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay to end the first day of competition.

During the final day, 11 different Eagle swimmers turned in career-best time and placed seven top-16 finishes, highlighted by four top-eight marks.

Freshmen Benjamin Ryan and Jacob Ehrman posted a pair of career-bests in the 1650 Freestyle. Ryan placed fifth and Ehrman came in seconds behind him.

Sophomore Ryan Current won the 'B' final in the 200 Freestyle, clocking in 11th place with a career best time of 1:40.65.

The men can in fifth place again, but this time in the 200 Backstroke with freshman Corey Smith. In the 200 Breaststroke, senior's Conner Finnigan and Chris Buzard ended their careers on a high note by Finnigan claiming 13th place, while Buzard also clocked in nineteenth.

EMU swim and dive also clocked in 19th and 22nd place in the 50 Free, before freshman Matthew Martin placed eight in the 200 Butterfly. Freshman Gian Garcia continued to succeed through the 200 Individual where he best his career best timing by four seconds.

EMU is now looking forward to the Michigan First Chance, Feb. 18-19, before MAC Championships next month.
