Eagles dominated by Central Michigan, 29-3

The Eastern Michigan wrestling team was dominated by the Central Michigan Chippewas on Friday, Feb. 10 at Bowen Fieldhouse in a 29-3 Mid-American Conference Dual.

In a match against an in-state rival, the Eagles only managed to notch a win in one of the ten weight classes they competed in. 

To kick off the contest, Gage Hutchinson of EMU fell in double overtime, 4-3. Blake Caudill was up next for the Eagles where he was shutout in a 7-0 loss to set the dual score at 7-0.

Armando Torres dropped a major decision which caused the Eagles to trail 11-0. Kyle Springer couldn't change Eastern Michigan's momentum as he fell 1-0 in a stalemate match. 

The Eagles continued to struggle when Nick Barber gave up a major decision to give Central Michigan an 18-0 lead. Zach Carson gave the Eagles hope but lost in extra time.

Devan Marry picked up the only win for the Eagles with his 7-6 decision. Jacob Davis gave up a major decision to set the score at 23-6 with two matches to go. 

Kayne MacCullum of EMU fell in a 7-4 decision against no. 15 ranked Jordan Ellingwood. Derek Hillman ended the match with a 6-5 loss by decision to no. 17 ranked Austin Severn of Central Michigan.

The Eagles will now host the Michigan State Spartans on Sunday, Feb. 12 for Senior Day at the Convocation Center. The dual is set for 2 pm.
