Women's swim and dive team now 7-0

The EMU women's swim and dive team defeated Wayne State and Tiffin University on Jan. 21, at Jones Natatorium. The tri-dual victory moved the women up to 7-0 . EMU won over Wayne State by 179-85, and beat Tiffin 179-60 as the team placed first in all but one event.

The Eagles started the meet out with two wins in the 200 Medley Relay by seniors Alexis Mitcheltree , Sierra Wagner , and sophomore Dora Vrcic . During the 1000 Freestyle, Senior Mary Grace Van Allen came in lead, clocking in a season-best time of 10:25.05.

During the 200 Free, the women had three of the top-four times clocked in. Sophomore Nicole Swartz registered the win at 1:53.62. And in the 100 Backstroke Liberman, Young, and freshman Casey Gavigan turned in the top-three times. Liberman clocked in at 57.58, Young at 57.56 and Gavigan at 57.88.

Duncan then picked up a win in the 100 Breaststroke as sophomore Emilie Desnoyers followed in with a first-place finish in the 200 Butterfly. Wagner added another win in the 50 Free, finishing off the swimming half of the meet.

Freshman Brielle Johnston started the diving part of the meet with two first-place finishes on the springboard. Mitcheltree then came in with a win in the 100 Free and Gavigan won the 200 Back.

The Eagles added a sweep of the top three spots in the 200 Breast, led by Worthley. Dombkowski, Vrcic, and Swartz each had victories, which closed out the meet and secured the Eagles win.

The women will compete in the Mid-American Conference next weekend, Saturday, Jan. 28, in Buffalo, N.Y. against the University at Buffalo along with the men's swim and dive team.
