Project Heal: What Makes Me Beautiful

Project HEAL of Southeast Michigan will be hosting What Makes Me Beautiful Oct. 14 through Oct. 16. What Makes Me Beautiful is a weekend of activities that encourage body positivity.

Project HEAL is a non-profit organization that promotes body positivity and is focused on supporting people who battle life threatening eating disorders. The organization funds treatment of eating disorders for people who can not afford it, and also provides education on eating disorders, and promotes healthy body images and self-esteem.

Research shows that 90 percent of women have a poor body image versus the 18 percent of men that are unhappy with their body.

“Being positive about my body freed up a lot of time and energy to do positive things,” said Stephanie Koenig, leader and founder of the Project HEAL Southeast Michigan Chapter.

What Makes Me Beautiful Weekend kicks off with a Donate to Dine event at BD’s Mongolian Grill in Ann Arbor Friday, Oct. 14.

A workshop called, Is it Me or the Stuff, will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 along with Champagne and Shopping. Is It Me or the Stuff is a makeup workshop led by Angel Vanas at the Rebel Heart Salon in Ypsilanti. The Champagne and Shopping event is at Muse Atelier Vintage Store in Ypsilanti.

Movement to HEAL therapeutic movement classes will bring the What Makes Me Beautiful weekend to a close Sunday, Oct. 16.
