The women’s rowing team traveled to Oklahoma for their first official regatta of the season Saturday, Oct. 1.
With four races on the agenda and the Lady Eagles’ team stacked with sophomores and two seniors to lead the pack, the team looked to win.
“We took a very young squad to the Head of the Oklahoma, anchored by two seniors and seven sophomores,” said Head Coach, Kemp Savage.
In the first race, varsity finished 10th out of 20 teams with a 24 second improvement off last year’s time. In the later race, the 8-woman boat was split into 2 for woman boats in which the team competed against 27 other boats. The Eagles pulled through and managed to land 13th place in the second race.
During the third, they were put back into an 8-woman boat clinching the, “Petite Final” and claiming victory over the other five teams in the running. On the final day in Oklahoma, the last race was cancelled due to inclement weather.
“With a lot more speed in the boat showing this early, we're excited to see what the rest of the season has in store,” said Eagle sophomore Jennifer Bucci on the progression of the rest of their season.
The focus of the team shifted Oct. 9 when Michigan State hosted the “Head of the Grand.”
