Eagles go 1-1 at home

The Eastern Michigan volleyball team finally made its way back home following a pair of road Mid-American Conference opponent matchups last week to take on the Western Michigan Broncos Friday, Sept. 29, at 7 pm in the Convocation Center. The team was fresh off of a 1-1 weekend the week prior and looked to take more steps in the right direction.

The Eagles faced off in a thriller with the Broncos taking the match in only four sets. In a thrilling first set, that was forced into a 24-24 tie, the Eagles were able to string together back to back points and secure the first set in the win column. The Eagle would go on to drop set two 25-21 but would win the last two 25-19 and 25-23. Redshirt sophomore Mallory Rajewski and freshman Riley Taylor demonstrated an exquisite ability to distribute the ball to their team with each raking in 27 and 23 assists respectively.

The Eagles quickly hopped back onto the court Saturday, October 1st, looking to build on their in-conference victory with another in-conference foe with the Northern Illinois Huskies. The Huskies came into the match with an undefeated conference record and that would not change. The Huskies dominated all three sets winning them 25-15, 25-18, and 25-19. Despite another downpour of assists from Taylor, 20 in total, the Eagles were unable to come out victorious against the Huskies.

The final score brings the Eagles to a 7-10 record on the season and a 2-2 record in conference. With road matchups with Central Michigan on Thursday, October 6th, and Ohio University Saturday, October 8th, the Eagles will need to rebound quickly to stay afloat within the MAC conference.
