EMU premiers Captain America: Civil War

Friday September 9th, the EMU Student Center premiered Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. The film raked in over 179 million US dollars during its opening weekend in early May, so writers Joe and Anthony Russo can most definitely count this film as a success.

The movie starts with a scene of Steve Roger’s (Chris Evans) old childhood friend, James “Bucky” Buchanan (Sebastian Stan), being initiated for one of his kill missions as the Winter Soldier. You see Bucky crash a car and find blue luminescent fluid filled blood bags in the trunk of the crashed car. You are then reverted to present day where the Avengers are on a mission in Nigeria.

During the movie we follow a man by the name of Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) whose soul mission is to tear apart the Avengers. He knows he cannot beat them as ‘The Avengers versus a common enemy’, but he figured out a way to collapse the team from the inside. To do this he manipulates a plan to pin Captain America against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). With this plan he is successful and the two once friends gather their own recruits to battle it out for “what is right”.

Team Captain includes: Captain America, Bucky, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and Sharon Carter(Emily VanCamp).

Team Iron Man includes: Iron Man, War Machine (Don Cheadle), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), The Vision (Paul Bettany), and Spider Man (Tom Holland).

With five action packed fight scenes, tacky comical commentary distributed well throughout the whole film, and an out of nowhere plot twist, Captain America: Civil War is a film that will both keep you on the edge of your seat and have you laughing out loud throughout the whole movie.

EMU student who were enjoying the film weighed in before and after the movie on which team they were rooting for.

Basil Ritho said he was Team Captain in the beginning and in the end he said, “I feel for Iron Man, but I am going to stay Team Captain”.
