Simmons named NCAA All-American

Eastern Michigan University men’s track and field member Solomon Simmons earned NCAA First Team All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 9.

Simmons set a program record of 7936 points and placed sixth in the decathlon.

Simmons finished third in hurdles, seventh in discus throw, ninth in pole vault, sixth in javelin throw and twelfth in the 1500m run.

"What a great competitive effort for Solomon," EMU coach John Goodridge said in a press release on EMUEagles.com. "He has overcome so many physical obstacles throughout his career, including the past three weeks, but he battled like a champion today right to the very last meters of the 1500. He is an Eastern great.”
