Slocum finishes season at NCAA Nationals

The Eastern Michigan gymnastics team’s season finished Friday night as sophomore Rachel Slocum competed at NCAA Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas.

Slocum competed as an individual on the floor exercise and was paired with the UCLA team for the evening.

“Last night was simply amazing, rotating with the UCLA girls and competing in my favorite event was just the icing on top of the cake of a fantastic year,” Slocum said.

She competed in the fourth rotation and, as has been the case all season, nailed her routine. The judges gave her a 9.8 which placed her in a tie for 47th in the overall standings.

Slocum was the only representation of the Mid-American Conference at Nationals and this marked only the second time EMU has had someone compete in program history.

“Competing with the best of the best NCAA gymnasts was honestly an experience I will never forget,” Slocum said. “This season has been a whirlwind but I'm ready and excited to start preparing for next season!"
