Police blotter, March 23

Thursday, March 17, 2016.

The Parking Department called the Department of Public Safety to North Campus Lot at 11:33 a.m. to report a fraudulent parking tag. A student tried to alter an old one to make it look current. Now that the student has been caught, they have been referred to the Office of Student Conduct. A second student was caught in the same lot for the same violation six minutes later and has also been referred to Student Conduct.

A patrolling officer found two non-EMU students smoking marijuana near the corner of Ferris and Washington at 5:00 p.m. The two men admitted to smoking marijuana, but since they no longer had any on them the officer let them go.

DPS responded to Village E at 10:51 p.m. for a student disrupting quiet hours. The unidentified student vented their frustration in the hallway and DPS calmed them down. The student was sent to Student Conduct.

Friday, March 18, 2016.

EMU staff reported an underage student drunk in their dorm room in Best at 1:55 a.m. The student has been referred to Student Conduct.

Saturday, March 19, 2016.

Two students were pulled over near the corner of Ann and Putnam streets for driving the wrong way down a one-way street at 12:21 a.m. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer could smell marijuana. The driver was cited for a traffic violation and the passenger was cited for paraphernalia. Both students have been referred to Student Conduct.

DPS pulled over a non-EMU student at the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and College Place, near Pease Auditorium, for a traffic violation. The driver failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol level over .08 percent. The driver was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail and DPS is seeking charges with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

A resident of Westview Apartments called DPS at 6:44 p.m. because they smelled marijuana coming from another apartment. DPS found two students smoking marijuana and have referred them to Student Conduct.

DPS pulled over a car at the corner of Huron River Drive and LeForge Road because they threw something out of their car. DPS stopped and picked up what they believed was marijuana and then pulled over the suspect, a non-EMU student. DPS has sent an unusual amount of what they believe to be marijuana to be tested. They are seeking charges with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Sunday, March 20, 2016.

DPS pulled over a car on the corner of Cross and Ballard for going the wrong way down Cross at 3:16 a.m. The driver failed a field sobriety test and was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail. DPS is seeking charges with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Student Housing reported being aware of two underage students possessing alcohol in Best Hall, at 3:44 a.m. DPS has referred the students to Student Conduct.

A bike parked in front of Village D between 9:45 p.m. on March 19 and noon on March 20 had its tires slashed. The student victim called DPS at 11:23 p.m. DPS is still investigating.
