The pitchers led the Eastern Michigan University Eagles (8-13, 2-0 MAC) in a 4-0 shutout of the Bowling Green State University Falcons on Saturday afternoon at Oestrike Stadium.
Senior Augie Gallardo who pitched five and a third innings and accumulated seven strikeouts led the Eagles. Then came in senior Michael Marsinek who pitched until the end of eighth inning. Junior Sam Delaplane came in for the last inning, marking his second straight appearance.
The offense got started early when sophomore Brennan Williams flied out to get redshirt junior Marquise Gill on the sacrifice fly to set the score to 1-0. Redshirt junior Mike Mioduszewski continued the inning with a RBI single to get senior Jackson Martin a score.
In the fifth inning, Gill hit a double to left field, stole a base and scored on a wild pitch. This set the score at 3-0 Eastern Michigan and gave Gill 17 stolen bases on the season that landed him in the top five in the country.
In the bottom of the eighth, senior Mitchell McGeein flied out, but got Jackson Martin back home as the Eagles took the 4-0 lead.
The game also had a big highlight during the fifth inning when head coach Mark Van Ameyde was ejected from the game. Van Ameyde was tossed for arguing balls and strikes. Van Ameyde was unavailable to comment on his ejection following the game.
The Eagles face off against Bowling Green on March 27 at Oestrike Stadium to finish up the three-game homestretch.
