Eagles spoil Toledo's senior night

The Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team completed its regular season sweep of Toledo, ruining senior night, with a 79-75 victory in Toledo, Ohio Friday afternoon.

EMU guard Raven Lee was the offensive force in this victory, scoring 26 points and dishing out three assists. Tim Bond would again fill up the stat sheet, finishing with 13 points, seven steals, five assists, and six rebounds.

The Rockets got off to a four-point lead but Bond, fresh off his game winner, provided a defensive presence by getting three steals to put the Eagles up by two. Raven Lee also got a steal and drove to the basket to provide a transition game for EMU.

Jordan Nobles contributed to the Eagle defense with a block and seven rebounds to help the Eagles keep a one point lead before three pointers from Johnathan Williams and Nathan Boothe put Toledo up by four going into the half.

Toledo opened up a seven-point lead to start the second half, but two jumpers by Raven Lee would bring the Eagles to within one. Jaelan Sanford hit a triple to put Toledo up four but Raven Lee would became a one man show driving to the hoop to put the Eagles within one.

Tim Bond continued to lead the Eagles’ defense by getting two more steals to put the Eagles up by one with seven minutes left. The Eagles stifled Toledo on both ends of the floor to open up a four-point lead with two minutes left. Then Bond, Brandon Nazione, and Lee would get to the line to make clutch free throws to put the game away.

With this win, EMU and Toledo will face off again Monday in the first round of the Mid-American Conference tournament at the Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
