According to the Center for Disease Control, around 12,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the United States every year. The Eastern Michigan University Women’s Resource Center is going to be hosting a discussion on Cervical Cancer Awareness, Thursday, Jan. 21, 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The nursing department’s Jenni Hoffman will guide the discussion in the Student Center’s room 352. They will be providing free education and discussion on statistics, prevention and detection for this cancer, which usually affects women over 30. This is free and LBC approved.

The EMU student organization AMP! will be hosting its ReUP Fashion Show in the Student Center's Gallery, Thursday, at 7:00 p.m. According to its Facebook page, the show is “an alternative fashion event that demonstrates our environmental impact through innovative and unique designs made from recycled materials by EMU student designers.”

Grant Writing is an important skill for most academics and other majors to have. Rich Austen will be visiting Eastern for the ORDA Workshop, Friday, Jan. 22, to show students how to do that. According to the EMU calendar, this 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. lecture will give students and faculty tips on how to write a good grant proposal. This is free.

The EMU Tennis Team will be playing Oakland, Friday, at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are available at emutix.com.

Campus Life will be playing Goosebumps for its Friday Night Movie. This 2015 nostalgia trip of a movie, starring Jack Black, Dylan Minnette and Odeya Rush has a 73 percent on rottentomatoes.com. Show times are 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Washi Con 2016 will premier at McKenny Hall all day Saturday and Sunday. This is Eastern Michigan University's “first convention for animation, anime and gaming,” according to the EMU calendar. According to their collegiatelink.net page, they said they wanted to be an exhibition for experimental work and a venue for a community for comprehensive criticism. “Our goal is the convergence of serious critical attention about the creative output praxis for our nerd-dom fosters,” they said. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. and shut at 11:30 p.m. both days.

The EMU Men's Basketball team will be playing Ball State at 12:00 noon, Saturday, in the Convocation Center. Tickets are $12. Tickets for the EMU women’s basketball team will be $10. They will be playing Toledo at 2:30 p.m., at the same location.
