Graduating EMU students will be able to by their commencement regalia at the Student Center Bookstore Grand Fair starting at 10 a.m. all day Monday and Tuesday. Diploma frames, alumni merchandise and commencement tickets can be picked up at the Student Center Ticket Office. Commencement itself will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19.
Students interested in technology will have the opportunity to exercise their coding skills outside the classroom with Hour of Code at 4 p.m. in Pray-Harrold room 514. This is a crash course in computer coding which does not require any previous experience. Students must RSVP with Krish Narayanan by email or phone at 734.487.1256. This is free and LBC approved.
The Early College Alliance is a high school program in which students from ninth to tenth grade come to EMU to earn both high school and college credits for classes taken on campus. Anyone with siblings in that age group and in the immediate area will be able to take them to the ECA Information Session at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom B. This will be a free informational session for the 2016-17 academic year.
Tuesday, Dec. 8
89.1 WEMU is EMU’s radio station. Located at the top of King Hall, the NPR affiliate and jazz station have been in existence for 50 years. It will have an Open House from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the King Hall Lounge. This will include a studio tour, live band, hors d’oeuvres and the chance to meet the station’s hosts. The studios are located on the third floor.
This generation of LGBT Americans have been witnessing a great deal of change just in the last couple of years. But what about older members of the LGBT community? The Equality Knowledge Project Speaker Series is about exploring the issues facing that community. It will be hosting a conversation about “culturally competent healthcare for LGBT older Americans” at 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center Room 310A. This is free and LBC approved.
Campus Life will host Snack & Study, a cram-session, starting at 9 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. According to the EMU Calendar, there will be a free buffet, massages and giveaways.
Wednesday, Dec. 9
Student Government will host Club Halle at 6 p.m. at the Bowen Field House. The field house will be filled with “giant inflatables, refreshments and giveaways the week before finals,” according to the EMU Calendar. This is free.
