The Board of Regents appointed Donald Loppnow the new interim president of Eastern Michigan University at a special meeting in 201 Welch Hall at 9 a.m. Monday.
The decision to appoint Loppnow comes after Kim Schatzel, who was previously filling the role, was appointed president of Towson University, effective Jan. 25, 2016.
Loppnow has held the position of interim president two other times and has also served in positions such as administrator and professor before retiring in 2014.
“Eastern Michigan University has been near and dear to my heart for more than 40 years,” Loppnow said in a press release. “I am pleased to be asked to step in to help guide the University forward in the months ahead. I am fortunate to be surrounded by talented students, outstanding faculty, an effective and experienced leadership team, and staff who make Eastern an outstanding institution.”
