The Board of Regents to vote on EAA agreement

The Eastern Michigan Board of Regents will vote on whether to continue the university's role in the Education Achievement Authority, a partnership with Detroit Public Schools, at the Board of Regents meeting, Dec. 8, in Welch Hall.

This document shows the recommendation from last year to amend the motion to withdraw from the EAA. The document, dated, Dec. 5, 2014, encourages continued participation. It also recommends that the Board of Regents give notice this December "of its intention to withdraw its participation" unless meaningful progress on four criteria was made.

The criteria are as follows:

  • A stronger partnership is formed between Eastern Michigan University and the EAA;
  • Demonstrated student achievement and progress in EAA schools;
  • Fiscal Accountability; and
  • Complete Transparency of all activity, including prompt and appropriate responses to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act.

According to Article VIII, Term and Termination, Section 8.01 (b), EMU can withdraw from the agreement with 180 days of notice. If the university withdraws, the end of the agreement would be effective June 30, 2016.
