Freshman Alex Theisen won a year of free tuition at the football game against Western Michigan University Thursday night.
Swoop’s Free Tuition Toss is Eastern Michigan University’s newest attempt at increasing attendance at football games.
According to EMU, Theisen’s award covers 24 credit hours, worth approximately $10,000.
Two students were chosen at random to participate in the competition. Two costumed Swoops tossed footballs into containers. After one minute, Theisen caught more footballs, making him the winner.
To be eligible for the drawing, students checked in at Tailgate Town before the game and the two finalists were chosen at random. They also had to be enrolled full-time, be in good academic standing and have the Eagle Rewards app downloaded on their phones.
The competition will take place again on Nov. 14 at the game against the University of Massachusetts.
