Police Blotter, Oct. 10

Eastern Michigan University's Department of Public Safety dealt or assisted with several incidents over the course of the week.

Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015.

An EMU student reported a bike stolen from outside Pitman hall at 4:07 p.m. Saturday. Police are reviewing security footage from the surrounding area as part of their ongoing investigation.

Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015.

Three EMU students were found to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia on the corner of Forrest and Lowell Sunday. DPS pulled them over for a simple traffic stop at 12:01 a.m. and seized a “jar” of cannabis. The marijuana is going to a forensic lab for analysis and then the case will be sent to the prosecutor for charges. The case is still open. Student conduct has been notified.

DPS assisted the Ypsilanti Police Department in a domestic assault on Pearl Street at 5:35 p.m. Sunday. The case is open, but because the case is being investigated by the Ypsi police department, DPS could not comment on the nature of the crime or whether EMU students were involved.

They could not provide details on another assist at 8:40 p.m. the same day. This was a robbery near the corner of Pearl and Perrin streets. Attempts to contact the Ypsilanti police department were not immediately successful.

Monday, Oct. 5, 2015.

A homeless man was found unconscious in the bushes of 611 West Cross Street just after midnight. He was transported to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital for sickness from his drunken state and the case has been closed.

An EMU student’s car was stolen from the Convocation Center’s parking lot Sunday night. The student’s 2013 grey Ford Fusion was reported stolen at 9:22 p.m. Police say that the theft is believed to have occurred between 2:45 p.m. and 9: 15 p.m. There was no security camera footage and the car has not been recovered. The case remains open.

Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015.

An EMU student was pulled over near the corner of Cornell and Washtenaw Avenue at 12:31 a.m., Tuesday. The student failed a field sobriety test, registering a .17 percent blood alcohol level. Blood work has been sent to analysis and the case will be submitted for the prosecutor to consider charges. Student conduct has been notified.

An EMU security guard contacted DPS at 9:47 a.m. Tuesday. An EMU student came to the guard’s location at the Bowen Field House and reported being the victim of domestic violence in an off-campus apartment. The suspect is also reportedly an EMU student. The Ypsilanti Police Department will be handling the case, since it occurred in their jurisdiction, but DPS said the victim didn't want to make a police report.

Police at Rynearson had rocks thrown at them at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday. DPS said it is not sure who threw the rocks but it did happen when they were doing crowd clearing. The case is still open.

An EMU employee reported that their wallet was stolen, in Welch, at 6:56 p.m. Tuesday. It is believed that the wallet was stolen some time between 10:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. Police are reviewing security camera footage. The case is still open.

There was a scuffle at the baseball fields at 10:49 p.m. Tuesday. EMU students got into an altercation in the middle of a softball game. The victim, according to police, does not want to press charges. The case has been closed and student conduct has been informed.

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015.

A crock-pot was stolen from an EMU student between 3:20 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Commons. Police said that the student brought in food to share, went to park her car and it was gone when she came back. There are no suspects at the moment and the case is still open. The police are reviewing security camera footage.

Two non-EMU students were cited for drinking alcohol around the corner of Pearl and Adam streets at 8:24 p.m. Wednesday. The case is closed.

A non-EMU student was arrested around the corner of Ballard and Washtenaw, at 9:49 p.m. Wednesday. He ignored police orders to stop and attempted to escape on his bicycle. He was stopped and found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. The case has been closed.
