Rec/IM hosts Code Green Game Night

In celebration of Eastern Michigan University’s 95th homecoming week, students and volunteers held Code Green Game Night Tuesday, Oct. 6 in the Rec/IM building.

The event included pizza, craps, bingo, Texas hold‘em, and poker with many different prizes to be won.

The head coordinator of the game night, Rahul Rajam, a 26-year-old sports management major, chose the idea loosely based off an event held for spirit week about 10 years ago. He chose to limit this event to four games.

“I feel poker is going to be most popular because regular poker games are held at the Rec every Tuesday night,” Rajam said. “Craps will be interesting for a few people because it’s just dice rolling.”

He estimated that 100 students would show up to join in the fun. The entirety of the event took the homecoming committee almost the whole month of September to plan and execute.

Louis L. Gianino, the director of the Rec/IM facilities, worked alongside the homecoming committee and volunteers including helping with set up, providing beverages, food and some prizes, and had the Rec staff handle the cover charges of people who attended.

“This event is off to a good start,” Gianino said. “We’re here for two to three more hours so we are expecting more people.”

DeJanae Berry is a senior on the homecoming committee.

“The event is held to have a little fun, ‘gamble’ a little bit and bring everyone together for spirit week with prizes and excitement,” Berry said. “There are a lot of chances for people to win tonight.”

Berry acted as the treasurer for the poker table and did a lot to help decorate and set up for the game night.

Andrew Scarton, 23, a marketing major, attended the event to play multiple rounds of Texas hold’em, hang out with friends and eat pizza.

“Can’t beat games with friends and good food for only $5,” Scarton said. “I’m hoping to win some prizes later.”

He attended with his friend Dylan Delikla, 22, philosophy major, who wanted to come to see what was going on with the games and food.

The homecoming committee also had prizes like hats, water bottles, t-shirts and lots of other EMU-related spirit wear.
