The Eastern Michigan University men’s and women’s cross country team competed in the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday Oct. 2.
The men’s cross country team finished in sixth place with 190 points, defeating No. 17 New Mexico and No. 18 Arizona State.
Willy Fink, in his season debut for EMU, led the Eagles with a 15th place finish with a time of 24:07.9. Other notable runners include Nick Raymond, Lahense Bouchikhi, and Hlynur Andersson, who all made their debut for the Eagles, Raymond finished 31st with a time of 24:23.9, while Bouchikhi and Andersson finished 34th and 46th with times of 24:27.8 and 24:38.6.
The EMU women’s cross country saw an improvement from it's last meet. While the Eagles finished in 11th place with 342 points, almost every runner improved on their 5k times for the season, with two harriers finishing in the top 40 amongst a field of talented runners.
Sofie Gallien and Jordann McDermitt continue to be the top runners for the women’s cross country team. Gallein ran to a 25th place finish with a time of 17:06.8, 40 seconds faster than her previous best. McDermitt finished 36th with a time of 17:16.7. Alsu Bogdanova is also among the top runners for the Eagles, finishing in 71st place with a time of 17:38.6, 27 seconds faster than her previous best. Other runners include Sydney Meyers who finished 98th place and improved her best time by 33 seconds. Amy Frauhammer, Claire Mesa, and Anna Aldrich all improved their best times by more than 38 seconds.
The men’s and women’s teams will have a weekend off before traveling down south to Louisville, KY for the Pre-National Invitational Oct. 17.
