The Eastern Michigan University men’s and women’s cross country teams ended their regular seasons at the annual EMU Fall Classic Friday, Oct. 23 in Dexter, Mich.
The men’s team was comprised of mostly newer runners to give them some experience before the start of the postseason. The Eagles were led by graduate student Joshua Sabo, who finished the race in 4th place with a time of 15:13.5. The next runner to cross the finish line for the Eagles was freshman Brendan Utz, who finished in 15th place with a time of 15:34.
Sophomore Nick McFairland and freshman Morgan O’Flahrity would be next Eagles to finish. They finished 27th and 30th with times of 15:56.3 and 16:00.7. Other runners include Adam Beck, Alec Keaton, and Caleb Hess, who finished 40th 43rd and 47th, with times of 16:11.9, 16:20.1. The final runners to finish were Christian Lopez, Roman Blackwell, and David Saporito, who would finish 50th, 53rd, and 62nd with times of 16:30.6, 16:36.4, and 17:01 respectively.
For the EMU women’s cross country team, they also rested their top runners by employing a younger lineup. Senior Amy Frauhammer led the Eagles. She finished 25th with a time of 18:31.8. Runners Anna Aldrich and Claire Mesa would be the next ones to finish. They finished in 30th and 33rd place with times of 18:50.6 and 19:12.2. Lauren Pottschmidt and Leah Wallace rounded out the Eagles, finishing 35th and 47th with times of 19:25.7 and 20:14.8.
Also, EMU runner Jenna Wyns, who ran unattached, finished in 17th place with a time of 17:59.7
The Eagles now begin the postseason by preparing for the Mid-American Championships on Saturday Oct. 31, then the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, Nov. 13.
