The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved an amended employment contract for President Emeritus Susan Martin today at a special meeting in 201 Welch Hall.
The amended contract allows Martin to interrupt her 12-month sabbatical leave from EMU to take an unpaid administrative leave. This is so she can assume the position of interim president at San Jose State University.
Martin will assume the interim presidency position on August 18, 2015 and her time at San Jose State will conclude on June 30, 2016, when she plans to return to EMU.
"This really is a unique opportunity for our retired president," said Mike Morris, the chair of the Board of Regents. "For them to reach across the country and ask her to come be an interim president of one of the biggest schools in the California school system, it's an honor to Eastern. It really is."
This administrative leave will be without pay or benefits from EMU.
