Women’s Soccer Schedule Preview

The fall schedule for the women’s soccer team was released Wednesday and is highlighted by trips to the University of Michigan, a home stand against rival Western Michigan and senior night against Southern Illinois.

The last time the Eagles met the Wolverines was in 2013 when the Eagles were defeated in overtime by a goal in the 100 minute by Meghan Toohey. Michigan was ranked No. 14 at the time of the game. Last season, the Wolverines had a record of 12-5-3 with an 8-2-3 conference record. The Wolverines were led in points by sophomore Nicky Waldeck, who had 29 points. The Eagles and Wolverines will meet in the first match-up of the year on Aug. 21.

Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan last met in last year’s double overtime thriller that saw the Broncos defeat the Eagles to advance to the MAC Tournament semifinal. Sophomore Emma Kahn ended the Eagles’ MAC Tournament hopes with a goal in the 106 minute, stopping the Eagles’ comeback and ending their season. The Eagles and Broncos will meet at Scicluna Field on Oct. 23, to renew their rivalry.

The Eagles’ senior night will be held on Oct. 25 at Scicluna Field when EMU will take on fellow MAC team Northern Illinois.

The Huskies and the Eagles met last season in October when they defeated the Eagles 3-1 in Dekalb, Ill. The Huskies went 6-11-4 and had a conference record of 4-4-3. They were led in points by freshman Lauren Gierman. Eastern and Northern Illinois will meet in the Eagles second to last match-up of the season.

Notable returning players for the Eagles are Chelsie Oddan, Ellie Tillar, Megan Trapp and goalkeeper Megan McCabe. Oddan led all returning players with nine points. Tillar and Trapp both had eight and McCabe finished the season with 75 saves, eight shut-outs and a record of 10-6-1.
