Softball falls to Notre Dame, 10-2

The Eastern Michigan softball team was unable to keep up with Notre Dame Wednesday as the Fighting Irish defeated the Eagles 10-2 in six innings.

EMU trimmed the Notre Dame lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth inning, but the Fighting Irish sealed the eight-run victory with a six-run barrage in the bottom of the inning.

Freshman pitcher Trisha Trujillo started on the mound for EMU and took the loss after giving up five runs on 10 hits through five complete innings of work before leaving with no outs in the sixth. Alyssa Huntley and Abbie Minsker came on in relief for in the sixth and struggled to get the Fighting Irish out, leading to the big final inning.

Offensively, right fielder Michelle Kriegshauser led the Eagles, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and center fielder Jenn Lucas hit a home run in the contest. Catcher Taylor Wagner provided the other EMU run on an RBI ground out in the sixth inning.

The Eagles will continue their nine-game road-trip with a double-header Friday against MAC rival Akron. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
