Former Eastern Michigan University Sports Information Director Jim Streeter will be honored by the university in a ceremony when EMU plays the University of Toledo, Friday. EMU will rename its Athletic Media Relations Office in honor of its former director for lifetime of service to EMU.
Streeter was inducted into the EMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004, his ties to the University includes:
39 years working in the Athletic Media Relations office
37 years as Sports Information Director
Graduated from EMU in 1973 with a degree in physical education and minors in journalism and history
Sports editor for The Eastern Echo for two years
Received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2013
Granted Emeritus staff by the Board of Regents in 2013
Streeter resides in Ypsilanti with his wife, Mary. They have three sons: Andrew and twin brothers Michael and David, and three grandchildren: Isabel, Annaliese, and Avery.
“Jim has been an invaluable component of EMU Athletics for more than 40 years. He has tremendous passion for this University and positively impacted the lives of hundreds of our student-athletes through his tenure,” EMU Athletic Director Heather Lyke said in a press release. “All of his contributions are greatly appreciated by Eastern Michigan and now we have the opportunity to honor him by naming the office he led for so many years after him.”
