Eastern Michigan University baseball team lost to the Santa Clara Broncos 5-3 Saturday, Feb. 28. The Broncos had a 5-0 lead all the way into the ninth inning until EMU’s Michael Mioduszewski hit a three-run triple in the final inning still leaving them down two runs at the end of the game.
Charlie Land tossed 6 innings, a career high, but allowed two earned runs on five hits. Land started for the third time this season.
The eagles collected 8 hits in the game with Jordan Peterson leading the team with 2 hits. Freshman Brennan Williams picked up his third hit of the series going 1-for-4 in game two of the set. Williams also recorded his first collegiate double in the third inning.
The Eagles worked toward a comeback in the final at-bats but came up two runs short. Adam Dennison started the rally with a one-out walk, Tony DiLeo reached the bases on a third baseman error. Coach Van Ameyde sent pinch hitter Luke DeVenney up who loaded the bases for Mioduszewski. Mioduszewski hit into the right center field gap for a triple run making the score 5-3 where it would stay for the remainder of the game.
