Eastern Michigan University’s Victoria Voronko was named Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the week the MAC announced Tuesday.
This is the second week this season an EMU student athlete has received the honor. Last week, fellow Eagle Darce Dremaine received the award.
Voronko brought home two wins in the first meet of the 2015 season adding to EMU’s victory against MAC rivals Central Michigan and Western Michigan University at the CMU Tri Meet on Jan. 30.
Voronko won the mile event running it at 4:49.88. She was 18 seconds ahead of the second place runner also an EMU athlete. In the 3000m run, Voronko won in a tight race against WMU runner Maria McDaniel by 0.33 seconds, finishing at 9:43.15
Eastern will next compete at both the Akron invitational in Akron, Ohio and the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., both two-day events on Friday, Feb. 6, and Saturday, Feb. 7.
