Eastern finds some success in the water in day one's competition in Ohio

Both Eastern Michigan University’s men’s and women’s swim teams began competition at the Ohio State Winter Invitational on Saturday.

For the women’s team, Clarice Daniel had a personal best time of 4:26.76 in the 400 yard IM, placing second behind Zara Bailey, from the Ohio State University. Bailey swam the 400 yard IM in 4:21.06. They were the only two swimmers to qualify for the championship round.

Both Connor Fotsch and Nate Schingoethe took secured second place finishes for the men’s team.

Fotsch swam the 100 yard butterfly in 49.74 losing to Gregory Nymberg of the Ohio State University by two tenths of a second. Nymberg’s time of 49.54 placed him first of the nine swimmers to qualify for the championship heat.

Schingoethe lost out to Max Jelen of Miami of Ohio University in the 100 yard backstroke. Schingoethe times of 50.92 was narrowly beaten by Jelen who won the race in 50.77. Only 3 of the original 8 competitors qualified for the championship heat.
