Donald Scott jumps to number one on the NCAA leader board

Splitting the EMU men's track squad up Saturday doubled the Eagles’ success. The team competed in both the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio, and the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.

In South Bend, Donald Scott not only placed first out of 16 in the triple jump, but he set an EMU record and a Meyo Invitational record with his personal best performance of 16.70 meters/54 feet 9.50 inches. Scott outpaced the field by almost a full meter and his jump placed him first on the NCAA leader board. Scott is now ranked fifth in the world in the triple jump.

The 4x400 relay team of Cameron Bolton, Jeff Elam, Matthew Williams and Mason Waynes also took home a first place out of 21, narrowly beating Ohio State by a little more than a tenth of a second with a time of 3:09.12.

At Akron in field competition, EMU's Anthony Jones placed second out-of-25 to JC Lambert by almost three-and-half meters in the weighted throw. Jones throw of 20.70 meters was the best throw of all the collegiate athletes at the event. However, Lambert's throw of 23.45 meters was the top throw of the day.

Track and field will again split up their squad, competing in Geneva, Ohio, at the SPIRE Invitational Feb. 13-14. and at Allendale, Michigan, at Grand Valley State University's "Big Meet" also Feb. 13.
