Coming off of a win over the defending Mid-American Champions, Central Michigan University Chippewas in the Michigan/Illinois Challenge. The Eastern Michigan gymnastics team (6-1) returns home Saturday to take on the Kent State Flashes (2-3). The Eagles look to remain unbeaten at home and the meet is scheduled for 4pm.
The Eagles are still atop the Mid-American Conference standings with a 194.600 team average where Kent State is in third with a 194.019 team average.
Eastern Michigan senior Carrina Lo Bello is coming off her first all-around meet of the year where she scored 38.700 and senior Anna Willette continues to lead the MAC with a 39.042 average.
Eastern Michigan senior Chantelle Loehner continues to dominate on the floor posting a 9.856 average score and currently placed second in the MAC only behind Ball State’s Denasiha Christian by .002 points.
On the uneven bars, freshman Kendall Valentin is coming off her best score yet of 9.850 and is currently fifth in the MAC. Senior Carrina Lo Bello also had a good showing with a season best 9.825.
On vault, four of the six Eagles had season best scores in the Michigan/Illinois Challenge, not including Anna Willette who lead the vault with a 9.800 score.
On the beam, the Eagles will look for strong performances from Willette, Valentin and redshirt freshman Lacey Rubin who posted a 9.800 score in the Bowling Green meet.
For Kent State they are coming off of a season high 195.750 team score. Freshman Rachel Stypinski set a career high score of 9.900 in both the floor and beam events in that meet. Another freshman, Brooke Timko, had a career high score of 9.785 on vault. Also look for Chelsea Drooger to have a strong performance on the beam as she currently is third in the MAC with a 9.775 score.
Following the Kent State meet, the Eagles stay at home when the University of Illinois-Chicago comes to the Convocation Center on Feb.15 at 1 p.m.
