President’s Day is upon us and The Echo asked students: “Who is your favorite president and why?”
“I don’t really have a favorite president.”
Justin Spencer, business entrepreneurship, sophomore
“I would say my favorite president is Abraham Lincoln because top hats are awesome.”
Alex Stutzman, simulation, animation and gaming, freshman
“I have to go with Abraham Lincoln. He’s just the one I know most about and he freed the slaves – that’s a big thing.”
Jeremiah MacDonald, computer science, freshman
“JFK is my favorite president. I think his charisma very much showed during his presidency and I think he really was one of those presidents who was a man of the people. So, I always idolized him.”
Desmond Miller, public administration, senior
“It’s either between Benjamin Harrison or Theodore Roosevelt. Benjamin Harrison, I actually used to know, but I can’t remember anymore. Teddy Roosevelt because one, he was probably one of the coolest presidents we had and the only person we have today that matches him is Vladimir Putin – as in toughness.”
Guillermo Kilpatrick, biochemistry pre-med, freshman
“My favorite president would probably be George Washington. He was one of the founding fathers and I think the idea of coming together and wanting to create a nation that was based on equality, based on freedom and based on using people’s will and determination to grow themselves. I really like that. Maybe it’s not specifically about him, but maybe what he represents.”
Beverly Elcock, marketing, graduate
