The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named both Eastern Michigan University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams to the division I All-Academic Team list Wednesday, Feb. 11.
To qualify for the list, teams must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
EMU Women’s cross country coach Sue Parks said, “Our student-athletes continue to shine academically semester after semester. I'm proud of how hard they work both on the course and in the classroom.”
EMU’s women’s cross country team had a cumulative 3.66 GPA and the men’s cross country team maintained a 3.36 GPA.
EMU’s Victoria Voronko and Sofie Gallein were also placed on the All-Academic Individual list, tying Toledo for most student All-Academic List members from Mid-American Conference schools.
“We are extremely proud of our cross country teams for their dedication to their academic success,” EMU Athletic Director Heather Lyke said. “It is tribute to the quality of student-athletes our coaches recruit to Eastern Michigan University and the commitment of our student-athletes to balancing their athletic and academic commitments. They set the bar high and continue to rise above it.”
