Dan Harris, Co-Anchor of ABC News and Good Morning America, is set to speak to students about how to be 10 percent happier in their everyday lives in the Student Center on Tuesday.
Harris will be touching on a variety of subjects surrounding how to be happier including stress control, self esteem and the benefits of meditation.
Though mental illness is becoming more openly talked about thanks to stars like Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga, it still is surrounded by a stigma of “I don’t want to look crazy, so I’ll handle this on my own without seeking help.”
With suicide rates among college students still high, talking about issues like breaking negative thoughts or how to give yourself a mental boost might encourage more open discussions about depression and meditation as a way to relieve stress.
Harris, who is the author of the New York Times bestseller “10% Happier,” won’t physically be at attendance but will interact and speak through a live broadcasting.
The event will be held at the Student Center in room 310 B at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
