A new year means new fashion trends for us to fall in love with, absolutely hate, or impulse buy now and then get sick of it when everyone else has it.
A few months ago, the always anticipated Fashion Weeks took place and we were able to get a peek at what trends 2015 had in store for us. Now with the new year in full effect, here are ten things that you can anticipate seeing in store windows and maybe even hanging in your closet.
1. Khaki: Expect to see a lot of shades of khaki paired with army greens and neutrals this year. Chanel, Gucci, Michael Kors and many more designers brought back this classic look in a way that is far from basic. The safari color scheme can expected to be seen on dresses, pants, bags, accessories, you name it.
2. Hippie/Boho: The 70’s and 60’s will most likely be a big inspiration this year. Bohemian has already been growing in popularity in recent years, but in 2015 it may get even more hippie dippie. Think long, flowy and effortless from head to toe if you plan on perfecting this trend.
3. Patchwork Denim: Just about everyone owns denim, but this year denim is taking a new spin by being reinvented in a patchwork quilt kind of way. Picture all different shades and washes of denim stitched up together. If that doesn’t sound appealing to you then look up some of the professionals who created it for next season, like Gucci and Tommy Hilfiger.
4. Polka dots: One of the simplest prints that always seems to recur on the runway from time to time. Polka dots have already been seen this year on the designs of Marc Jacobs, Dolce and Gabbana, Moschino and Chanel.
5. Flats and sneakers: This year, you may even see a decrease in one of the most notable accessories of high-fashion, the high heel. It may be getting the boot this season and being replaced with more practical and comfortable footwear. Chanel had their models in couture sneakers once again for the new season.
6. Ballerina: Long tulle skirts, pale pinks and nudes, and organza capes. Ballerina-like attire is also a trend that has began making its way into the new year. Designers like Burberry, Giorgio Armani and Valentino took inspiration from the original prima ballerina-look to create some whimsical and elegant garments. You could walk into Windsor at the mall right now and find a variety of colors in long tulle skirts with a satin waist band.
7. Nautical: Big buttons on navy blue jackets that are made to look like you’re going sailing pretty much sums up this trend. Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs were just a couple of brands displaying the nautical look.
8. Jumpsuits: If you remember a few summers ago when a lot of girls went out and bought rompers, then you can expect almost the same thing from this trend except maximized into a jumpsuit silhouette. This industrial, edgy look was shown by Dior, Versace and Ralph Lauren with different details, fabrics and accessories, making it look like a new wardrobe staple.
9. Monochrome: Black and white isn’t really a new trend, but it will definitely be seen a lot this year. Almost all of the major designers had some version of a black and white ensemble on their runways for next season.
10. Plastic: Yes, plastic. This more unconventional trend may or may not show up in the ready-to-wear industries. But if you are trying to be ahead of the crowd then you may want to consider checking out some of the clear plastic jackets, shoes and skirts that will be appearing this spring.
