The head coach of Eastern Michigan University’s Rowing Team, Kent Savage, announced the team captains for the 2015 spring season Monday.
Seniors Emily Kent and Tijana Milovanovic and junior Ashley Gilmore will lead the rowing team in the 2015 campaign. This is Savage’s first year as head coach of the rowing team.
“Ashley, Emily and Tijana have been great leaders on this team for their entire career and this was made even more evident when their peers voted them as our captains for this year,” Savage said in a statement. “They each have had a different path to rowing and EMU and this gives me a great deal of information from different perspectives of leadership.”
Kent, Gilmore and Milovanovic have experience in several races and CAA Championships. Gilmore and Milovanovic also have earned CRCA National Scholar-Athlete honors.
“Ashley rowed at a very high level in high school and her experience of having rowed for four years before coming to EMU shows in her technical skills and her knowledge about rowing,” Savage said.
According to an EMU Athletics press release, Kent rowed in the Second Varsity Eight boat to begin the 2014 season before earning a place in the Varsity Eight boat in six races. Kent helped the V8 squad to a dual victory over Drake at the Lubbers Cup on April 19, 2014, with a time of 6:57.80.
“Emily has been a great asset to the team for all four years and her past as a walk-on novice allows her to understand some of the struggles our walk-ons have to work through to become great athletes,” Savage said. “Tijana, who rowed for four years in Serbia, has a unique perspective as an international athlete and is one of the hardest if not the hardest worker on the team.”
The EMU Rowing Team will travel to Clemson, S.C., to scrimmage the Tigers before participating in the Clemson Regatta Saturday, Feb. 28.
