Job fair gives graduates a shot at employment

Eastern Michigan University will be hosting one of the largest running job fairs in the state on Friday.

The Michigan Collegiate Job Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Burton Mannor, 27777 Schoolcraft Road in Livonia, Michigan.

The fair is a statewide event held in the spring and fall each year. It is an opportunity for employers to recruit qualified graduates from Michigan colleges and universities for entry-level positions and for students seeking employment to begin their post-college careers.

More than 120 employers will be attending the event including Coca-Cola Refreshments, IBM, Quicken Loans, Target Stores, Thomson Reuters, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and several state and government departments.

Prospective employees are encouraged to register online before Nov. 12. The cost to register online is $10 and walk-in registration is $15.

“The number of employers continues to rise, which shows that the job market is stronger, especially in the Information Technology and engineering fields,” Ebony Jones, senior corporate relations manager at Eastern Michigan University, said in a statement.

Those attending the job fair should dress for success in business casual attire. Prospective employees are encouraged to bring around 25 copies of their resume and prepare to discuss their qualifications as a prospective employee.

“Candidates will have the opportunity to stop at the prep room available on-site where they can prepare their pitch to employers, receive a wardrobe check as well as learn how to utilize LinkedIn for networking,” Jones said.

The EMU University Advising & Career Development Center is offering resume assistance for students interested in attending the job fair. For more information on the job fair or to register visit emich.edu/mcjf/candidates.php.
