University of Toledo 42, University of Massachusetts 35
Toledo scored a touchdown with 38 seconds left in the game to escape with a 42-35 victory over UMass to stay unbeaten in MAC play. The Rockets (5-3, 4-0 MAC) stuck to their strong running game, as running back Kareem Hunt rushed for 198 yards on 26 carries with one touchdown, while backup back Terry Swanson gained 97 yards on 18 carries and scored two touchdowns including the game-winner. The Minutemen (2-7, 2-3 MAC) held a slim 20-14 lead at halftime on three touchdown passes from quarterback Blake Frohnapfel, but the second half troubles continued for UMass, as the Rockets outscored them 28-15 in the final 30 minutes. Frohnapfel finished the day completing 28-of-55 passes for 438 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. Both teams combined for 1,017 yards in the game along with the combined 77 points scored. Both teams will have next week off for a bye week.
Central Michigan University 20, University at Buffalo 14
CMU wide receiver Titus Davis caught six passes for 100 yards and scored the game winning touchdown with 8:08 left in the game to pull the Chippewas (5-4, 3-2 MAC) back over the .500 mark. The Chippewas held an early 14-0 lead thanks a pair of touchdown runs from running back Saylor Lavallii, but Joe Licata threw a pair of touchdowns to tie the score for the Bulls (3-5, 1-3 MAC). This was the first game for Buffalo since the firing of head coach Jeff Quinn two weeks ago. CMU will travel to Ypsilanti next week to face Eastern Michigan while Buffalo has a bye week.
Western Michigan University 42, University of Ohio 21
WMU running back Jarvion Franklin rushed for 156 yards on 35 carries and scored three times to lead the Broncos to their third straight conference win. The three touchdowns by Franklin ties a school record for his 19 touchdowns on the season. WMU (5-3, 3-1 MAC) scored 28 straight points in the first half to take a 28-7 halftime lead and cruised to the victory. Ohio quarterback Derrius Vick threw for 246 with a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough for the Bobcats (5-4, 3-2 MAC). Western Michigan will travel to Miami University-Ohio next week while Ohio has the week off.
