YPD investigating unarmed robbery at Ypsilanti bus station

The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a reported unarmed robbery that occurred around 8:25 p.m. Friday at the AAATA Ypsilanti Transit Center.

The victim, a male who does not attend Eastern Michigan University, said that a male suspect between 20 and 30 years old wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a red Nike hat walked up to him and took a small amount of cash out of his hand at the bus station.

After the robbery, the victim chased down the suspect, but lost him near Michigan Avenue. When the victim arrived back at the bus station, he saw that the suspect had already returned.

When the victim approached the suspect a second time, the suspect clutched his own waistband, indicating he was carrying a weapon, according to the victim’s report.

The victim said he fled the scene following the threatening gesture and called the police. No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Ypsilanti Police Department at (734) 483-9510.
