EMU soccer shuts out Oregon St., 2-0

After finishing in a 1-1 tie with the University of Oregon, the Eastern MichiganUniversity soccer team defeated Oregon State University 1-0, Sunday in a tight game.

This marks the third time this season the Eagles have held their opponent scoreless.

Junior goalkeeper Megan McCabe recorded her third shutout of the season after blocking only one shot on net by the Beavers, while 12 strayed off target. This shutout marks the eighth in McCabe’s EMU career.

Junior forward Megan Trapp broke the 0-0 tie in the 9th minute of the game making it 1-0 after she received a dish from Madison Hirsch and scored her first goal of the season.

Trapp had three shots in the game, all of which were on target.

After Trapp’s goal, the Beavers offense tried hard to tie the game up only to land one attempt on net. The Eagles stepped up and kept the Beavers from taking any shots for the last 17 minutes of the first half.

The Beavers outshot the Eagles 8-6 in the first half. In the second half the Eagles managed nine shots, while the Beavers only tallied five.

Four of the nine shots by the Eagles in the second half landed on target, two of which were scoring chances from Trapp trying to score a second goal. These two shots happened within 55 seconds of each other, but OSU’s goalkeeper Bella Geist managed to keep Trapp’s shots out of the net.

The Eagles offense kept Geist and the Beavers defense busy all afternoon firing 15 shots, seven of which landed on target. Senior forward Angela Vultaggio had five shots in the game, while senior midfielder Molli Krick managed four shots of her own.
