Eastern Michigan University sophomore Brett White was added to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference honorable mention list when the conference announced its men’s golf scholastic honors, June 4. White, who plans on majoring in supply chain management, boasts a 3.49 GPA. This is the first year he has been eligible for the accolade.
The Academic All-MAC honor is given to a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics as well as academics. To qualify for this, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 and have participated in at least one half of the contests for their particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
White played in eight tournaments during the 2013-14 campaign, recording a 75.6 average in 25 rounds played. He paced the Green and White at the MAC Championship finishing in eighth place with a five-over par 293 (71-76-78-68). The top-10 showing was the first of White’s career and the fourth by an EMU student-athlete throughout the season.
White also tied for 20th at the Talis Park Challenge (March 16-17) with a 228 (77-74-77). During the fall season, the Caledonia, Mich. native finished in 36th place at the Wolverine Intercollegiate (Sept. 16-17) with a 221 (77-75-69), while finishing tied for 56th at the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate (Oct. 14-15) with a 235 (75-79-81).
Ball State University, Kent State University, and the University of Toledo were all represented equally for this year’s men’s team with a total of two selections each for the award.
The Cardinals were represented by Tyler Merkel and McCormick Clouser while the Golden Flashes were represented by Corey Conners and Kyle Kmiecik. Nate Gonring and Chris Selfridge represented the Rockets.
