Two EMU students victim of attempted unarmed robbery

The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a reported attempted unarmed robbery that took place at approximately 12:25 a.m. at the intersection of Ballard Street and Emmet Street. The victims are two male Eastern Michigan University students. Minor injuries were reported.

The two victims reported being approached by four suspects while walking home from a liquor store at Ballard Street and Emmet Street. The four suspects repeatedly punched the two victims and attempted to steal a bottle of liquor from them. The victims did not report anything stolen and declined medical attention for their minor injuries.

When the victims were assaulted, they began yelling out for police. This caused the four suspects to flee on foot. They headed west on Emmet Street and then north on Perrin Street before the victims lost sight of them.

The victims described the suspects as African American males in their late twenties or early thirties wearing dark clothing.
