The Department of Student Conduct and Community Standards reported to police that a loud verbal dispute occurred between two students at Pittman Residence Hall. Police documented the incident and verbally warned both students.
April 12
Police received a report of attempted larceny during an event at University Park at 1:55 p.m. A suspect was observed trying to steal an unattended handbag. When the suspect was confronted, he dropped the handbag and ran from the scene. Police are currently investigating the matter further.
Officers observed two female subjects in a parked car in the roadway near Washtenaw Avenue and Anna Street trying to get another female into their vehicle at 3:12 a.m. The female outside the car was being uncooperative with the two subjects and refused to get into their vehicle. Upon further investigation officers discovered that both the driver of the vehicle and the passenger, who was a minor, were intoxicated. The driver was arrested for operating while under the influence of alcohol and taken to Washtenaw County Jail. The passenger was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and transported to the hospital via HVA. The passage was a student at EMU and was also referred to the Department of Student Conduct and Community Standards.
Police patrolling past Hill Residence Hall saw a known trespasser in the building. The officers searched the building for the suspect, but could not find him. The police are continuing to investigate the matter.
Officers were called to the North Campus Parking Lot One at 11:17 a.m. A passerby observed a purse lying on the ground. Reporting officers found no bag, but one was turned into DPS a short time later. The recovered bag was missing a set of keys. The case remains open.
A person reported that his or her car had been keyed at 12:50 p.m. The person arrived home and observed the damage to their vehicle, the person suspects the crime occurred while their vehicle was parked at the McKenny Parking Lot. The matter is under investigation.
April 13
Police were called to Wise Residence Hall at 1:06 a.m. A student was observed vomiting profusely in front of the building. The student was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and transported to the hospital via HVA. The student may also face discipline under the Student Code of Conduct and Community Standards.
A man who was threatened by a suspect wielding a knife, flagged down patrolling officers near Ballard Street and Washtenaw Avenue. The suspect was found and during the arrest she reportedly kicked, scratched and spit on the arresting officers. The officers called for medical transport and the suspect had to be strapped down to the gurney in order to be restrained. The suspect was found to be a juvenile and was sent to the hospital for observation. The suspect was arrested for assault and battery, resisting an officer and police are seeking charges.
Police were called to Buell Residence Hall at 4:46 p.m. because of the smell of marijuana coming from a student’s room. The student admitted to the police to having smoked marijuana earlier in the day. The student was not charged, but was referred to the Department of Student Conduct and Community Standards.
