Students had the opportunity to take a walk in wonderland on Tuesday at the LGBT Resource Center’s fifth annual Pride Prom.
The “Alice in Wonderland”-themed prom, which took over the Student Center Ballroom for the night, was a huge success. Students walked down a red carpet with life-sized playing cards and danced the night away with “Alice in Wonderland” playing in the background.
One of the event coordinators, senior Josh Richardson, expressed that even though this was an event thrown by the LGBT Resource Center, it’s an event for everybody to come out and have fun.
The prom featured a raffle, giving away prizes such as an hour and a half tattoo session, restaurant gift cards, gift baskets and
T-shirts. All of the proceeds went to Equality Michigan, Michigan’s only statewide anti-violence and advocacy organization working primarily for Michigan’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.
Cameron Travis, a freshman adorned in rainbow tights, danced the night away. He stated that it was his first time attending Pride Prime, and that he was happy that Eastern provides so many resources for the LGBT community.
This was the last big event of the year for the LGBT Resource Center, but Josh invites everyone, LGBT or otherwise, to their welcome back “BBQueer” this upcoming fall.
