EMU women's golf finishes tied for eighth in Texas

On Feb. 17 and 18, the Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team shot a 942 (311-319-312) at the Jim West Challenge in New Braunfels, Texas.

EMU finished in a tie with Boise State University at eighth place as it shot a three-round score of 942.

The event marked a return for an integral part of the team, Corey Crossan, who sat out for four months recovering from a back injury.

Crossan shot a three-round score of 236, tying with teammate, Kelsey Murphy.

Junior Sylvie Williams led the Eagles with a three-round score of 232. The score put her in a tie for 20th in the tournament.

In the third round, Williams and teammate Lois Schoof scored 77’s which marked the lowest rounds of the tournament for the Eagles.

Gonzaga University ran through all three rounds, finishing with a lead score of 878 and the tournament win.

Gonzaga’s Raychelle Santos was the tournament number one, finishing at one under par. She shot a three-round score of 212 to nab her victory.

Williams was the Eagles lead scorer, finishing the tournament in a tie for 20th.

Murphy and Crossan finished in a tie for 35th.

The team will be in Peoria, Ariz., competing in the Westbrook Spring Invitational tomorrow (Sunday) and Monday. The tournament will be hosted by Northern Arizona University.
