Winter is upon us. Winter gets a bad reputation for being cold and in Michigan it means driving on terrible roads. There are, however, upsides to the season that can be easy to enjoy.
The beginning of the winter season brings with it snow, Christmas music and decorations, and new seasonal flavors. The flavors of winter can be found in everything from coffee and strong drinks to candles.
Candles
Candles are a nice way to warm up a room and bring the scents of the season to your home. They can also be a great gift idea for the person in your life who enjoys winter scents. Diamond Candles is a maker of fun candles with a twist. Each candle has a ring inside that is said to be worth between $10 and $5,000.
You just burn the candle down till the ring can be seen and carefully remove it from the wax. There are many winter scents of Diamond Candles including Christmas Tree and Fresh Snow, and it’s a unique way to give two gifts in one package.
Coffee
Starbucks is well known for their winter drinks in their famous red cups. The most popular of these flavors would be the Peppermint Mocha, Caramel Brule, Gingerbread and Eggnog lattes. These drinks are the perfect treat to warm up on a cold day and provide the caffeine that is needed to survive the end of the semester.
Strong drinks
Kahlua is currently offering a seasonal line for those who enjoy a stronger drink. The special flavors include Cinnamon Spice and Peppermint Mocha. These are a tasty edition to any coffee beverage and make an excellent gift as well. Ending a long hard day with a strong coffee beverage is something anyone can enjoy and appreciate.
Many local bars are preparing for the holidays with winter decorations and new beers. The Corner Brewery, 720 Norris St., hasn’t released their full winter line of beers but they’ve already begun to enjoy the winter spirits. A decorated Christmas tree and roaring fireplace help to being a feeling of comfort to the bar.
One current beer on tap at the Corner could be seen as seasonal. Fig Jam may not embody all of the flavors of winter but with an 11.5 ABV it will certainly warm you up. Fig Jam has flavors of figs and other dried fruits, as well as notes of baked bread. Think of it as a fruit cake that you can drink, and it will certainly make you feel merry.
Winter can damper the mood and feelings of the season but if you surround yourself with the flavors and scents of the season it can be easier to be jolly and enjoy the holidays.
