EMU’s Student Government Public Affairs Committee—
Eastern Michigan University’s Student Government Public Affairs Committee held an open session at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in room 104 of the Student Center to discuss the matter of offering in-state tuition to undocumented students.
The resolution is to support the Board of Regents in the decision to change the policy of EMU.
Highlights of the resolution note that thousands of undocumented immigrants who have graduated from an American high school are still required to pay out-of-state tuition to public universities in their own home state.
Other higher education institutions such as University of Michigan, Wayne State University and Washtenaw Community College have already changed their policies in support of offering in-state tuition to undocumented students.
The next meeting where the bill will be discussed in detail is to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in room 310A of the Student Center, at 6:30 p.m.
Kohl’s Marketing Challenge—
Eastern Michigan University students took first and third places in Kohl’s Marketing Challenge.
According to an article from EMU’s Division of Communications, teams who received high honors in the competition were asked how they would recommend improving the customer loyalty program of Kohl’s and its competitors.
There were two teams from EMU’s College of Business that partook in the sixth annual American Marketing Association regional conference. The conference was held at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Oct. 24-25 of this year.
The students submitted a plan and then the top five teams did a 10-minute presentation at the conference about their recommendations.
The winning recommendation EMU offered was an extension of the Kohl’s rewards program to all of the Kohl’s stores and an extra 15 percent discount to customers who enroll, according to the article.
