Mid-American Conference Week 5

Here is the Mid-American Conference roundup for week five:

Northern Illinois University Huskies 55, Purdue University Boilermakers 24

Northern Illinois (4-0) senior quarterback Jordan Lynch went 18 of 25 passing for 207 yards and threw for three touchdowns as they defeated the Boilermakers and became the first MAC team to defeat two Big Ten teams in the regular season. NIU also tied the MAC record for margin of victory over a Big Ten school (Toledo over Minnesota by 31 in 2001).

University of Illinois Fighting Illini 50, Miami (Ohio) University RedHawks 14

Illinois (3-1) senior quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase completed 19 of 24 passes for 278 yards and threw for five touchdowns and an interception. Scheelhaase threw all five touchdowns before the end of the first half. The Illini outgained the RedHawks in total yards, 601-250.

Bowling Green State University Falcons 31, University of Akron Zips 14

Bowling Green (4-1, 2-0 MAC) sophomore running back Travis Greene ran for 142 yards on 24 carries and scored a touchdown as they scored 28 unanswered points to knock off the Zips.

Ball State University Cardinals 31, University of Toledo Rockets 24

Ball State junior Jahwan Edwards continued the momentum he built from the EMU game last weekend as he rushed for 89 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns as they improve to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the MAC. Toledo (2-3, 1-1 MAC) senior running back David Fluellen had his fourth 100-yard game of the season as he rushed for 129 yards on 27 carries and a touchdown.

North Carolina State University Wolfpack 48, Central Michigan University Chippewas 14

NC State (3-1, 0-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) junior wide receiver Bryan Underwood had five receptions for 148 yards and a touchdown to lead the way in victory. Central Michigan (1-4, 0-1 MAC) junior wide receiver Titus Davis had five receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

University at Buffalo Bulls 41, University of Connecticut Huskies 12

Buffalo (2-2) senior running back Branden Oliver ran for 90 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown. Connecticut (0-4) junior quarterback Chandler Whitmer went 10 of 24 passing for 182 yards and threw for two interceptions.

Kent State University Golden Flashes 32, Western Michigan University Broncos 14

Kent State (2-3, 1-1 MAC) junior running back Traylon Durham went for 147 yards on the ground and scored two touchdowns. Western Michigan (0-5, 0-1 MAC) senior running back Brian Fields ran for 106 yards on 19 carries and scored a touchdown to lead the way.
